Travel Photographer: Detroit Abandoned Buildings

In September 2014, bankruptcy proceedings began for Detroit, the largest city in America to file for Chapter 9. Its renovation plan to alleviate their $18 billion debt includes funding to demolish abandoned city properties, which are seen an impediment to the city’s growth. But these “abandoned city properties” are historic. They are, arguably, part of what makes Detroit Detroit. And if the city does get bailed out, these buildings may not stand for much longer.

These photos of abandoned public properties — a church, a schoolhouse, a public theater and an automotive plant — were all taken in August 2014.
